Leon to Villa de Mararifle: September 18, 2014: Day 19

Leon to Villa de Mararifle: September 18, 2014: Day 19

We left Leon about 7:30 this morning. The 1st hour of our day was spent walking through Leon. It was busy with people rushing to work and school.  We had to stay very focused to avoid getting lost.  Twice we asked for help from local people.  Generally The Way is very well marked with yellow arrows or shells imprinted into the sidewalk.  It is most difficult to follow the path in the cities.  It seems like they are somewhat less intentional in their markings.

However, as Angie and I were leaving town we were both filled with a profound sense of thankfulness and awe.  Along the Camino there are so many people who who have done so much to support pilgrims in making this trip. Many people donate their time to paint yellow arrows and mark trails so that we pilgrims can find our way.  Hospiliiars help people with foot problems, provide directions and create a comfortable atmosphere.  There are often pilgrim masses and prayers are offered specifically for pilgrims.  Everywhere there are pilgrim signs and scuptures.  We are constantly reminded that the walk we are taking is important and sacred.  I don´t know if there is anything else like this in the world.  Sometimes I look at Angie and say ¨¨Can you believe we are in Spain, walking this path?¨

Lesson for today:  Give thanks for all those who help to guide our path.
