Burgos to Leon: September 17, 2014: Day 18

Burgos to Leon:  September 17, 2014: Day 18

We decided to spend an extra day in Burgos.  It is a beautiful city with a huge, gorgeous cathedral, medieval downtown, lots of shops and restaurants and a vibrant feel to it.  I got to take advantage of the opportunity to take a long bath.  Last night we met up with Irish ladies we thought we had said our last good by to.  We went to dinner at an Italian restaurant and went to an Irish bar for a drink afterwards.  We had a grand time!  We did not get back to our room until midnight which is well past our regular camino hours.  It was great fun telling out camino stories and learning about each other's lives.  With big hugs we said our sad goodbyes.

We left for Leon this morning on the bus.  We decided we are behind schedule and we want to be sure to leave enough time for an extra day in Santiago, a day in Finnistere and a couple of days in Madrid.  Driving to Leon is just like driving across southern Idaho.  It is as if someone just transported us home. Angie and I decided we should organize a camino in Southern Idaho to give everyone the experiece.  It could be great fun and we could have our camino experience over and over again.

As we came into town their was a McDonalds.  We were quite excited because we were having a longing for American food.  We scooted over and had a Fish Filet that was just like home!

Then we found our parochial alberque that holds 160 people.  We ended up in a room with 10 men and the 2 of us.  The snoring started at 7:30.  For the first time on the camino someone just plugged in there sleep machine.  It should be an interesting experience tonight!

So much happens in a day it is hard to include everything.  We toured the cathedral here with 120 stain glass windows.  It is really amazing, with beautiful gothic art work.  We also had some Turkish food for dinner.  We are taking advantage of the big city and a little variety in food before leaving in the morning.

On the bus we met a man and a woman from the US who are bicycling the Camino for 10 days.  The father travels to Idaho regularly and he knows Nampa and Star. He is in the livestock business and he is Basque.  I told him about our Idaho people who are Basque and recommended him to out Basque restaurants.

I better get to bed and turn off my phone before I upset the room full of men!
